AB® Fence & Allan Block® – Wairere Road, The Gardens
Project
This marvelous project is situated at The Gardens, a suburb north of Manurewa and next door to the Auckland Botanical Gardens, a botanical garden that covers 64 hectares and holds more than 10,000 plans and native forests.
The project came to life thanks to our long-term partner, New Zealand Landscape Supplies (NZLS), who contacted us asking if the AB Fence could be used at the front entry of a property where the client was looking for something different and durable that could provide beautification, screening, and containment.
Design
The Bowers Brothers Concrete technical team spent a good amount of time on this project making sure it went ahead and as smooth as possible. First, a site visit was organised among NZLS, the client and us to understand the scope of the project, client’s needs, and timeline.
Support regarding the material estimation and Allan Block retaining wall and AB Fence preliminary long and cross sections were prepared and provided. Even Sketch-Up 3D drawings were modeled to help the client get a better picture of the project once finished.
The first design included three small Allan Block retaining walls and an AB Fence that was 38.5 metres long and 1.9 metres high at the posts.
Installation
The client asked Bowers Brothers Concrete for a short list of contractors able to proficiently build both the Allan Block retaining walls and the AB Fence. After submitting their quotes and meeting with the client, Alicon Limited was selected.
The Allan Block RWs and the AB Fence construction were carried out on different stages, starting with the retaining walls, and finishing with the AB Fence. The Allan Block retaining walls were low, but included stairs, corners, and planting areas that were used to plant a variety of beautiful roses. The AB Fence was originally planned to cover only 38.5 linear metres, but the client loved the look of it and ultimately decided to increase its length to surround the entire property perimeter.
The AB Fence was built using a single color (Ironsand) and the Ashlar Blend pattern. Railing was installed at the top of the AB Fence panels offering a softer looking fence.
