Grasslok™ – Otanerua Road, Orewa
Project
Situated near the beautiful Hatfield’s Beach Reserve, this small residential project was to create a convenient and usable driveway and parking area at the front of the property. The existing area had been abandoned and covered with weeds and loose soil making it unusable for the family. The goal was to improve the entrance to the property and create a permeable parking area for the family’s vehicles with a hardstand area for their boat and caravan.
Design
Although initially the clients’ preference was to use a competitors’ product, ABC Retaining & Construction, managed by Ali Farzaneh, convinced his customer to work with Bowers Brothers Concrete after many years working together combined with our on-site and technical support. Bowers Brothers technical engineer suggested the Bowers Grasslok Permeable Paving System, because of its dimensions being slightly smaller than similar products, this provided extra design flexibly with corners and the sloped surface of the driveway. As part of our service, we helped the contractor get the order early due to pressing weather conditions.
Installation
ABC Retaining & Construction found the Bowers Grasslok Permeable Paving System very easy to lay. They were equally impressed with the quality of the product as it allowed precise lines to be created with no rejects. Ali an experienced contractor with over 7 years experience constructing retaining walls and concrete driveways, showed an incredible commitment to the project. The Bowers Grasslok four side interlocking design allows contractors to use any pattern when installing them for vehicular applications. For this project the basket weave pattern was used.
The final part of the installation was to fill the 1,800 paver cavities with decorative river pebbles to create the permeable aspect of the driveway.
