Pre-Cast Feed Troughs – Woodcote Farms

Woodcote Farms would like to upgrade their feed pad by utilising the space to add more feed troughs and replace existing ones.
Design
Bowers Brothers start the process of producing the feed troughs by batching our 30mpa pre-cast concrete at our Morrinsville Ready Mix plant. Next step is to deliver it to our pre-cast yard right down the road. Our truck then pours the concrete directly into one of our molds. Our skilled pre-cast team then vibrate the concrete in the mold to get the air out of the concrete. The feeder will sit in the mold for 24hrs. After the feeder has been removed from the mold it sits and cures for 1 week in the yard.
At Bowers Brothers, we aim to keep our range of feed troughs in stock at all times. We like to maintain our stock levels around 60 – 150 feeders.
Andrew from Woodcote Farms contacted Bowers Brothers head office to request pricing on our High Back Feeders and 1.0m Open End Feed Troughs. Once Andrew decided to go forward with the order, we passed it on to the Dispatch team. Our dispatcher contacted Andrew and together worked out a date and time for delivery.
Installation
On delivery day Bowers Brothers hiab loads up at the pre-cast Yard and is off to Woodcote Farms. Once on site our driver works with Andrew on how he would like the feeders placed on the pad. Using our hiab our skilled drivers place the feeders where Andrew directed.
Bowers Brothers have manufactured premier precast concrete feed troughs for over 80 years. Stand-off pads increase production, improve animal welfare, reduce feed wastage and save paddocks in wet conditions. Our premier pre-cast feed troughs have an innovative false floor which raises the floor to provide easier feeding for stock. Troughs cast in high strength concrete for a longer and more durable life. We offer delivery and placing throughout the North Island.

Benefits of this solution
- The feed pad utilised space by adding more feed troughs. The Farm initially feeding 330 cows, now able to feed 430 cows.
- Woodcote Farms was able to run more efficiently while also providing a more effective system.
- Bowers Brothers high back feed troughs alleviated the need for costly fencing with one high side that was positioned at the boundary of the feed pad and raceway.
