Project
In early 2018 Jeremy from Cobblestone Charm approached Bowers Brothers inquiring what cobblestone looking paving we could offer for a large scale project he was quoting. The client was wanting to upgrade their car park with a dark coloured paver that would hold its colour, they did not want to have to seal it to achieve this. There would be areas that were for cars only and an entry exit loop that had to be able to withstand constant weight of heavy tour buses.
Design
To give the project a unique look, we suggested using our “new” Stonepave paver. This paver is a 200mm x 100mm unit with contoured tops to give it the look of stone sets. This paver is available in both a 50mm and 80mm option. 80mm pavers were used in the areas where the buses would be using and the balance was laid with 50mm, which is suitable for driving on. We then recommended the choice of 3 colour options, the darkest colour Midnight was chosen as the favoured option.
Installation
The beauty of the Stonepave paver is that they are laid on a standard flexible aggregate base which was easily adjusted when changing between the 80mm pavers to the 50mm pavers. This style of base is cost effective and fast to install. Had they chosen to get a similar look with a stone set, they would have had to lay them on a concrete base and mortar them in. This would have added a great deal of time and costs to the projects
Benefits of this solution
- The pavers provided a trafficable surface durable to withstand heavy traffic
- 3 years on it is a testament to the oxides Bowers use as the colour looks the same.
